Senator Charles Grassley Receives John J. Duffy Memorial Award from NCISS
September 4, 2020
Davenport, IA. — The National Council of Investigation and Security Services (NCISS) announced Senator Charles E. Grassley is this year’s recipient of the 2020 John J. Duffy Memorial Award. The award is named for NCISS’s first President, John J. Duffy, co-founder of Per Mar Security Services. It is the council’s highest honor and is given every other year to a person or entity outside the NCISS membership, who is being honored for their specific service, heroism, or other exemplary deeds. Previous “John J. Duffy Memorial Award” recipients selected this year’s honoree.
NCISS said in its announcement, “We are honored to have Sen. Grassley receive the award. His support of our profession and long relationship with NCISS – back to the award namesake and first NCISS President, John Duffy – is familiar to many.” Sen. Grassley has supported American business for over half a century. In addition, he has made himself available to NCISS Members at his office, spending more time with the organization than any other senator.
Sen. Grassley, while a congressman in 1978, attended a Hit the Hill in Washington D.C. At the time, John Duffy was serving as President of NCISS. Traditionally, Sen. Grassley would be honored at the NCISS annual Hit the Hill Luncheon in Washington D.C.; however, this year’s event was canceled due to the COVID-19 virus. On September 3, Michael Duffy, CEO at Per Mar Security Services and Past President of NCISS, presented the John J. Duffy Award to Senator Grassley at a small function held in Davenport, Iowa. Pat Grassley (R), Iowa Speaker of the House and grandson of Sen. Grassley, was in attendance when the award was presented (pictured below: Senator Grassley and Michael Duffy).
“First of all I very much treasure the John Duffy award because he was one of the first people to back me when I first ran for the United States Senate”, said Sen. Grassley. “In the forty years since I’ve been in the Senate, I’ve been happy to work with a whole industry of people, outside of government law enforcement, who are protecting the people and property of private business. Businesses like Per Mar do an outstanding job serving their customers so that free enterprise can do the simple, yet essential, thing: go about their business without worry.”
Brad Duffy, President of Security Officer Services at Per Mar and Chairman of the Board of NCISS, said, “Senator Grassley has been a champion for the Private Investigative and Security industry during his entire career in public service. NCISS has very much enjoyed a positive relationship with the Senator for over 40 years. He is an excellent choice for the Duffy Award as the NCISS legislative mission on behalf of our industry would have been unfulfilled without his support.”
